Aviation Carbon Conference 2018

20181105

CMIA is a Partner to the forthcoming Aviation Carbon 2018 conference that is being held at the Heathrow Marriott in London, UK, on Monday and Tuesday, November 5 and 6.

The conference will look in detail at the latest developments on ICAO’s Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) that will impact every airline operating international flights from next year, regardless of whether the country they are registered in has agreed to voluntarily participate from the start of the scheme in 2020.

Aviation Carbon 2018 will bring aircraft operators together with carbon market professionals and other stakeholders to discuss and inform on what is the first global market-based climate measure for any industrial sector. The conference will also look at the implications for other national and regional climate schemes such as the EU ETS.

Airlines should already be preparing for CORSIA as they will have to monitor their CO2 emissions from 1 January 2019. They will need a comprehensive understanding of the ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) that were adopted last month. An outstanding issue that will be discussed at the conference is the emissions units that will be eligible under CORSIA.

The organisers emphasise the strong practical element to the conference, and there will be an added opportunity for airlines seeking advice and guidance from CORSIA and carbon market experts. On the second day of the conference there will be separate streams including a Carbon Markets workshop.

In line with the aviation industry’s “Countdown to CORSIA” campaign to help ensure airlines are aware of their obligations under the scheme, the major airline and business aviation associations around the world are lending their support to Aviation Carbon 2018. Details of the conference can be found at www.aviationcarbon.aero.
